All data is measured at some location. Please describe how you can begin to start looking at data in your area of study using GIS. Which topics would you like to research using GIS to provide a geographic context for the project data?
it was nice. learning GIS is actually fun. i hope that this maybe use to study the watershed in la mesa? also in othe rdams in the philippines. is it possible? im also interested in the population growth in the philippines, demographic etc (did i andwer correctly?)
We could probably begin with land cover biology in the school campus where we could gather data such as type of ground cover, type of canopy cover, tree height, tree circumference and the dominant species found in the area.
Today's session is Great! I am interested on sociological and ecological data! i want to explore on the possibility of overlaying the 3 major aspects of the environment that is ecological, sociological and economics using the gis tool.
Hi! To all the organizer of the MyCoe Thank You for the interesting topic you have shared to us. As a research adviser it really help me a lot using the GIS software in gathering some data that will be used in a particular study. I'm very happy because we have study about schistosomiasis this year so, most of the data given to us now will be used so its a reliable and valid evidence in our study. And I know I can used this software in my other studies. So, I would say, excellent....I just want to ask if you will teach us on how to map our own data gathered in a particular study, if yes, then I'm sure it will help others research adviser as their reference in their related studies like us and vice versa if they have made also for others. Thank You to all, Godbless, More Power
Hi! I guess, the collection of data must start on the knowledge on how are we going to use some tools in collecting data such as the GPS. Researching on sites that provides readily available data on a particular topic can also help a lot to kickstart with the study.
Topics on endangered species in the philippines, water pollution, and deforestation are some of the topics that can be easily done using the GIS.
Thanks Maam Susan and Maam Linda for the inputs today!
Hi gud afternoon.Maybe i would be very interestred on the data starting in our barangay regarding on total population and classify the nature of work in every famliy, how they deal on the economics aspects in life, the difficulties they have encountered. following the steps given to us by our facilitators, i can do my research and teach them to my students. Thank you very much and more power. Godspeed.
Hi Susan.... Gingoog City, where I live, is a hotspot for Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever. I would like to ask help so that I can make a geographical map to determine the common factors among those places affected by the diseases.
Using this GIS I start my data in finding the economic status of our community compared to the neighboring place....But I need more time to discover using this things so that it can make easy if I conduct the research... Thnx a lot for the program... it helps me a lot....
Hello MyCOE trainors, with today's session i really learned a lot, though its difficult but it also allows us to explore the GIS. it's fun and i enjoy it very much. probably i could work on to the relationship between health and education in my Barangay. that's it for now, maybe i could have much interesting topic to work on in the next few days, after this workshop. DAGHANG SALAMAT!
I am interested in conducting research on the frequency distribution of species of trees found in our town. I know it is quite difficult but learning how to use GIS gives me interest to do so. Maybe I can start by listing the species of trees found in the study area and use these data later using the GIS in conducting the analysis. Thank you for the knowledge I gained from today's activity. My salute to you Ma'am Susan and Ma'am Lisa, and to the rest of the facilitators/trainors..
Deforestation is one critical problem in my vicinity, Mountains located in the boundary of Cagayan de oro and Iligan City seems are out of trees and visible to the naked eye when viewed from the seashores of Misamis Oriental. Reforestation is one major solution.Using GIS information would give a great help in working out this problem.
Thank you very much MyCOE Mam Susan and Mam Lisa the trainors...all the best! MABUHAY tayong LAHAT!
hi! using GIS is actually fun once you get the hang of it. I could do a research on population (demographics) of our municipality from some years back (5 years maybe) down to the current year (if data are already available in the National statistics office). Although, I have to learn how to input data first for GIS use.
i leave in dalipuga iligan city and it is located between two cement factories namely iligan cement corporation and holcim. i wonder if there's a relationship between the factories and people having respiratory deseases in our area. As of now i dont know the exact numbers of cases of people having respiratory diseases so i have to start from there. i will gather data and use GIS tools to interpret for a result. what i want is to find out effects of this factories in my community using GIS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH MYCOE TRAINORS, MAM SUSAN AND MAM LISA for teaching us this stuff. MABUHAY TO THE TRAINORS...!!!
I'm from Naawan, Misamis Oriental and one of the problem that is being encountered in my home town, is children are getting infected with Dengue Fever. To this problem, I would like to gather data or information and to use the technology of GIS in order to interpret the data needed for further study.
Thanks a lot to our Trainors of MyCOE, Mam Lisa & Man Susan for teaching us a lot on GIS. More Power and MABUHAY...!!!!
Hi! I think those previous activities that we have done in this workshop would help us to start looking and collecting data for studying using this GIS. The topics which I would like to research on the biodiversity of MT. Malindang and hoping that through this GIS and GPS would be able to track down and identify those endangered species because of deforestation. Thank you!
hi! it's been a great day. i'm thinking of having our nearby town to be my object of study. I wonder if we could still preserve our mountains. There is one foreign company who kept on getting our own mountains and transfer it to their place. They're quarrying, mining and at the same time bringing the lands at their place. I just don't understand their intentions. Maybe time will come that our mountains will all be gone. The quarry site is near the ocean, and i think it could cause harm to our environment specifically the bodies of water. They are destroying our landmarks! I wonder if i could map it and then show the difference from the past and at present and then show everyone how cruel they are. And that they will realize their mistakes. God bless!
Oh, what a great day for me maam Susan. In this activity I,ve learned much on how to locate different places on the map. I really appreciated this kind of workshop.
Thanks to you Maam Susan and Maam Liza for your untiring support to us. You're really a good facilitator. Everything is systematic and thanks again for the knowledge that you've shared to us. GOD Bless...
hi!!!I guess I have to practice more about the GIS software. Actually it's been a mixed reaction because at first i find it hard but later on I enjoy exploring some data and gaining some information.I learned a lot of todays topic. I think a topic about oceans, because our school is located along the coastal area, almost people there live through fishing and it is very heplful if I could study that. Thahk you very much...
if the data is about volcanoes,i will start looking the effects of its erruptions. i will be interested in studying why lanzones in our area is considered sweetest.
as of this time, i cant think of what to start with in my areas of study. mixnuts.. =) sure thing is, i enjoy eploring what we have today. truly interesting. and we had fun.
Hi Susan and Liza.the tasks you have given today are very interesting and satisfying. The power point presented greatly enhanced my background knowledge made my understanding about schistosomiasis more visually vivid. Moreso, these activities would greatly helped my teaching and the students comprehension of the lessons presented. Thank you very much. Olivia P. Hambre
I found this topic interesting and challenging. Its worth doing which enabled me to exercise critical thinking. In the future, this exercises might be useful to students who are engaged in a research study or investigation of rivers and bodies of water in Surigao del Norte which are contaminated with pollutants coming from mining companies and other industries. To the trainers, may your enthusiasm in facilitating activities be sustained.God bless.
As a beginner to this technology i'm so happy because i have learned little by little.Together with my friends and with the instructions given by our speakers i gained knowledge and skills, thank you very much to all of you. Malimono is the municipality where i come from. One of the municipality of Surigao del Norte. One of the problem encountered is shortage of water. This is what i'm to study using GIS.
Today's session is quite interesting and challenging.
Most likely, I will gather and research some data first. Then, I will explore possibilities on how I can maximize and use GIS as a tool in order to intensify such project data. Practically I will start on small scale basis and the topics that I will be considering are about environmental pollutions and mangrove tree profile of our locality.
Hi! I'm improving in terms of the use of GIS in exploring/observing data in order to answer questions that followed. Honestly, it really helps a lot in analyzing the relationships between different variables in the study. Iligan is known to be the Industrial City of the South. My place(residence and school, that is),has a number of cement factories and industries.I am curious about whether it has an effect on the amount of rainfall and air temperature (because the adjacent parts experience rain, while in our place it's warm and has less rain, I think) So, I would like to focus on perhaps the smoke and particulates that may affect both air and water environment in the locality
I think I must be skilled enough to use GIS. This can be done by constant exploration of the software. I would like to explore the condition of the River in our locality as affected by urbanization. This might include the physico-chemical and biological aspects of it.
Hello Mam Susan...this is Martina Bahian from MyCoE, Davao Philippines. Today we are going to kick-off with our GIS/GPS seminar with Science teachers in the Iligan City division...Hopefully, we can work together for Our Community, Our Earth!
the 3-day seminar was very helpful for teachers in the development of skills, techniques and to enhance the teaching process with the knowledge about GPS and GIS.The knowledge and skills acquired will be a weapon for improvements.....

i think it is essential to know the location or "address" of your research area.
climatic records, weather patterns, socio-demographic records..

It was fun and made me discover more of what geography is all about. This activity would make the students think critically by using the GIS tools.
i appreciate your effort in giving us detailed information on how we can comprehend it well.
God Bless!
